BO7 Patch: Aim-Assist Tweaked, SMGs Buffed, Drone Pod Nerfed
Call of Duty Black Ops 7 patch notes featuring aim-assist changes, SMG buffs, and Drone Pod nerfs

Treyarch has unleashed a significant update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, directly addressing critical community feedback and reshaping the game's competitive landscape. Released on November 21, 2025, this patch introduces pivotal adjustments to the controversial aim-assist mechanics, rebalances the weapon meta with substantial SMG buffs, and curbs the dominance of the powerful Drone Pod field upgrade. Players can immediately experience these widespread changes, which also include enhancements to the Zombies mode and the unlocking of the campaign's Endgame.

Core Gameplay Adjustments: The Aim-Assist Overhaul

At the heart of this new update lies a crucial revision to Black Ops 7's aim-assist system. Following extensive player feedback and data analysis, Treyarch has opted to dial back the initial, aggressive changes made between the beta and launch. The initial implementation required precise right-stick aiming for maximum rotational aim-assist, leading to a minimum 35% reduction in strength if targets weren't tracked effectively.

Recognizing they "slightly overshot" their intended balance, the developers have now adjusted this penalty. The minimum rotational aim-assist penalty has been reduced from 35% to 25%. Treyarch’s stated goal remains consistent: to foster "the most competitive experience for all players and inputs," acknowledging aim-assist as an "integral component of gameplay feel." This adjustment aims to strike a better balance, making the system feel more responsive while retaining its competitive integrity.

Multiplayer Weapon Metagame Reshaped

The weapon sandbox in Black Ops 7 receives a targeted tuning pass, primarily focusing on the Submachine Gun (SMG) class and its relationship with Assault Rifles (ARs).

SMGs: Enhanced Mid-Range Prowess

All SMGs across the board have received buffs designed to improve their viability, particularly in medium-range engagements.

  • Damage Range Buff: Baseline improvement to final damage range, extending their effective reach by several meters.
  • Attachment Improvements: Multiple attachments now offer substantial improvements to damage range traits, encouraging players to build for range without it being a mandatory "Gunfighter" choice.
  • Recoil Reduction: Several SMGs have baseline recoil improvements, complemented by buffs to Rear Grip attachments that reduce recoil, addressing the handling trade-offs.
  • Reduced Flinch: SMGs will now experience less flinch when hit, with received flinch reduced from 0.17N to 0.12N.

Assault Rifles: Tactical Flinch Increase

To counterbalance the SMG buffs and reduce the overwhelming versatility of top-performing ARs, these primary weapons will now experience a slight increase in received flinch. This adjustment raises the received flinch from 0.15N to 0.18N. While not a massive change, it is intended to subtly penalize less-centered shots and provide more counterplay, particularly against players consistently aiming for headshots.

Marksman Rifles: Strategic Counterplay

High-power precision weapons like the Warden 308 and M34 Novaline have been performing strongly. To ensure fair counterplay and encourage thoughtful attachment investment for aggressive playstyles, Marksman Rifles will now receive increased flinch, alongside hits to their handling and mobility. Specific numerical changes for Marksman Rifles were not detailed but the intent is clear.

Field Upgrades & Scorestreaks Reworked

The formidable Drone Pod field upgrade has been brought back into line with a series of significant nerfs:

  • Increased Charge Time: From 2.5 minutes to 3 minutes.
  • Reduced Active Duration: From 10 seconds to 8 seconds.
  • Reduced Damage Output: From 60 damage to 50 damage.

Additionally, Scorestreaks see minor tweaks: The Akimbo Overclock variant of the Hand Cannon gains two extra rounds per gun (5 to 7) and a 44% reduction in hipfire spread, while its Extended Mag Overclock sees a reduction from 12 to 10 rounds. The LDBR's Second Strike Overclock now fires 13 missiles per target, up from 9.

Multiplayer UI also benefits from a 10% increase in viewable minimap area, building on a previous 15% increase.

Zombies & Campaign Expanded

The Zombies mode receives vital quality-of-life improvements, particularly for the "Ashes of the Damned" Easter egg experience.

  • Reduced Boss Fight Difficulty: Adjustments make the "Ashes of the Damned" boss fight more manageable for all players.
  • Hoard Husk Regeneration: Now regenerates after a minute of collection, providing 25% more health.
  • Missile Effectiveness Reduced: Missiles will no longer fire during a Beam Attack charge.
  • Ol' Tessie Enhancements: Reduced damage to passengers and removal of the repair cooldown.
  • Zursa Adjustments for Solo Play: The zombie bear will not spawn in solo boss fights before round 100 and has reduced speed.

For campaign enthusiasts, the Endgame mode is now universally available to all Black Ops 7 owners, with those who completed the campaign naturally receiving exclusive in-game rewards.

Limited-Time Boosts & Future Content

To celebrate these updates, players can enjoy double level XP, weapon XP, and GobbleGum earn rates until November 24.

Looking ahead, Season 1 of Black Ops 7 is set to launch in December. This upcoming season promises the game's first battle pass, full Warzone integration, additional multiplayer maps, and a brand-new Zombies map, Astra Malorum, which is teased to take the fight against the undead into space.
