Gran Turismo 7 Update: 5 Cars, New Events, and More!

Last Updated: October 24, 2025

Gran Turismo 7 May 2024 update featuring new cars.

Polyphony Digital continues its relentless post-launch support for Gran Turismo 7, reinforcing its position as the definitive driving simulator with the May 2024 update. The latest free content drop, Patch 1.48, delivers a fresh injection of content for its dedicated community on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

This update carries on the momentum from the game-changing Spec II overhaul, adding a compelling package of five new vehicles, a new GT Café Extra Menu, more World Circuits events, and quality-of-life improvements that keep veterans and newcomers alike coming back to the track.

New Metal Hits the Pavement: A Diverse Quintet

The heart of any Gran Turismo update is the cars, and Patch 1.48 delivers a diverse and fan-pleasing collection of machines spanning different eras and philosophies. This month’s additions showcase a fantastic mix of motorsport legends, cult classics, and modern performance.

Leading the charge is a celebration of Japanese motorsport history. The legendary Honda NSX GT500 ‘00, specifically the Castrol MUGEN NSX, finally makes its highly-anticipated debut. A dominant force in the All-Japan Grand Touring Car Championship (JGTC), this mid-engine marvel is renowned for its incredible V6 soundtrack and formidable track presence. It joins the game as a Gr.2 titan, ready to battle in the highest echelons of virtual motorsport.

Complementing this icon are two revered JDM classics. The Nissan Skyline GTS-R (R31) ‘87 was a homologation special built for Group A touring car racing, representing a pivotal moment in the Skyline's evolution toward the GT-R dynasty. Alongside it, the Honda Civic SiR-II (EG) ‘93 arrives, a lightweight, high-revving VTEC champion of the '90s tuner scene and a giant-killer on technical circuits.

This month also saw a surprising and welcome focus on Volvo. The iconic Volvo 240 SE Estate ‘93—the beloved and famously durable "brick"—joins the fray, offering a unique and characterful driving experience. It's paired with its modern counterpart, the Volvo V40 T5 R-Design ‘13, a powerful and stylish five-cylinder premium hot hatch that brings a touch of Scandinavian flair to the game’s competitive Sport category.

More Laps to Run: Expanding the Single-Player Experience

Beyond the new vehicles, Patch 1.48 enriches the single-player experience with crucial additions to the World Circuits pavilion and the GT Café. Three new race events have been added to challenge drivers and provide new avenues for earning credits:

  • Japanese Clubman Cup 550: Alsace Village
  • American FR Challenge 550: Trial Mountain Circuit
  • Vision Gran Turismo Trophy: Grand Valley - Highway 1

More significantly for collectors, a new Extra Menu has been added to the GT Café. Extra Menu No. 39, titled "Racers of the Japanese GT," tasks players with collecting specific JGTC-era race cars, including the newly added Honda NSX GT500. These Café menus provide directed goals that celebrate automotive history and reward players for building out their dream garage.

A Picture-Perfect Improvement: Scapes Feature Update

For the virtual photographers in the Gran Turismo community, this update brings a small but meaningful quality-of-life improvement. While no new locations were added, the Scapes photo mode received a technical enhancement, allowing players to adjust camera height more freely in certain locations. This gives photographers greater creative control to capture the perfect low-angle shot or dramatic high-angle view, further cementing Scapes as a revolutionary platform for automotive art.

The Live Service Model: Keeping the Engine Running

Patch 1.48 is another stellar example of Gran Turismo 7's successful evolution as a live-service title. Following the massive Spec II (1.40) update in late 2023—which added a new track, Sophy AI integration, new cars, and a dashboard overhaul—Polyphony Digital has settled into a consistent rhythm of meaningful monthly content drops.

By providing regular, substantial, and free updates, the studio maintains incredibly high levels of player engagement long after the game's release. This model ensures the GT7 world feels dynamic and constantly growing. Unlike many other live-service games, Gran Turismo 7's updates focus purely on adding value—new cars to earn and drive, new events to conquer, and new tools for creativity—without segmenting the player base behind paywalls. This approach has cultivated a healthy and dedicated community that eagerly awaits each new silhouette teaser from series creator Kazunori Yamauchi, ready to discover what awaits them next on the track.
