Nintendo Switch 2 owners are celebrating a pivotal new firmware update, version 21.0.1, which addresses several critical system stability issues and, notably, rectifies compatibility problems for a beloved Switch 1 title. This patch arrives as a significant win for users, tackling annoying Bluetooth connectivity glitches and resolving persistent system transfer errors, alongside a major fix for the fan-favorite NieR: Automata.

Crucial Fixes Arrive for Enhanced User Experience

The latest software patch, designated version 21.0.1, brings more than just the expected "general stability improvements" to the Nintendo Switch 2 ecosystem. Nintendo has specifically detailed two key areas of concern that have been thoroughly ironed out:

  • Resolved two specific error codes encountered when attempting a local system transfer from an original Nintendo Switch (Switch 1) to a Nintendo Switch 2.
  • Fixed an issue where wireless controllers or Bluetooth audio devices failed to connect after the Switch 2 was woken from Sleep mode or Airplane mode was deactivated. This particular fix has been met with relief by users who previously reported intermittent Bluetooth connectivity problems.

NieR: Automata and Backward Compatibility Advancements

Perhaps the most celebrated aspect of the 21.0.1 update is the resolution of compatibility issues affecting the Nintendo Switch 1 version of NieR: Automata when played on the Switch 2. Players have confirmed that the critically acclaimed action RPG now functions properly, eliminating previous glitches. This continues a positive trend of backward compatibility enhancements following earlier firmware upgrades.

Previous firmware iteration 21.0.0, released earlier this month, also included significant fixes for other Switch 1 titles running on the Switch 2, such as:

The update does not include fixes for the third-party dock compatibility problems that emerged after the 21.0.0 patch.
