Arc Raiders: "A Prime Specimen" is a Resource Sink Plagued by Progress-Blocking Bugs
The "Headwinds" update for Arc Raiders has introduced a fresh batch of hurdles for Raiders, but none are proving quite as frustrating as A Prime Specimen. While Embark Studios clearly intended for this to be a high-stakes scavenger hunt, the current state of the quest is a masterclass in extraction-shooter jank. Between the heavy resource cost and the erratic quest triggers, we’ve found that many players are burning through valuable utility items only to be met with a dead-end interaction.
The Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF)
To complete A Prime Specimen, you must bring two Arc Powercells to a Deforester on the Blue Gate map and complete a two-stage circuit sequence. However, the quest is currently bugged for a significant portion of the player base; if the interaction prompt doesn't appear at the first circuit, you must rotate to a different Deforester or extract and reset the instance entirely.
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Location | Blue Gate (Adorned Wreckage, Barren Clearing, or Ridgeline) |
| Essential Loot | 2x Arc Powercells (Minimum) |
| Primary Target | Arc Deforester Wreckage |
| Risk Level | High (Due to bug-induced time wasting) |
Navigating the Deforester Circuit
Our analysis of the "Headwinds" quest loop suggests that Embark is leaning harder into environmental interactions. Unlike the "Movie Night" quest, which is a straightforward (if brutal) Shredder den clear, "A Prime Specimen" requires a specific mechanical sequence inside the massive cylindrical wrecks known as Deforesters.
The Operational Sequence:
- The Entry: Locate one of the three Deforesters. We recommend the Ridgeline location to the east if you’re looking to avoid the high-traffic chaos often found at the Barren Clearing.
- First Circuit: Enter the main chamber and find the circuit panel on the left. Consuming your first Arc Powercell here clears the path by activating (then stopping) the flame vents.
- Second Circuit: Move to the end of the chamber and dump your second Powercell into the final circuit.
- The Search: Exit the wreckage, climb the exterior scaffolding to the upper platform, and interact with the rear wall to finish the quest.
The "Bug" Factor: A Veteran's Warning
We’ve seen this before in early-access extraction titles: the quest event simply fails to initialize when the raid starts. If you approach a Deforester and find the circuit panel is non-interactive, do not wait around. You are a sitting duck for other Raiders or Arc patrols.
In our testing, if one Deforester is bugged, there is a slim chance the others on the same map might still work, but usually, the entire instance is borked for that specific quest trigger. Our advice? Don't waste your shield charges or ammo trying to "force" a fix. If the prompt isn't there, head for the nearest extraction point and roll the dice on a new lobby. It’s an annoying hit to your efficiency, but it's better than losing a stockpile of Powercells to a glitch.
Contextualizing the Grind
Compared to previous milestones like "With a View," which relied heavily on the RNG of Exodus item spawns, "A Prime Specimen" is theoretically more deterministic. You know where the Deforesters are, and Powercells are common enough to craft or scavenge from any Arc machine. The real difficulty spike here isn't the combat—it's the technical stability. We expect Embark to push a hotfix for these quest triggers soon, as "A Prime Specimen" is currently acting as a major progression gate for the mid-game rewards.
For now, pack light, bring your Powercells in your secure container if possible, and be prepared to reset your run the moment the UI fails to cooperate.
