The Sands of Fate: Hidden Files Point to Egypt
Kratos has spent enough time in the snow. After dismantling the Greek gods and surviving the Norse Fimbulwinter, the evidence is mounting that "God of War" is heading to Egypt for its next major arc. This isn't just fan-theory fluff; we’re looking at hard dialogue strings found hidden in the back-end files of
God of War Ragnarok.
In Game News has seen plenty of "leaks" that go nowhere, but this one carries actual weight because of who found it. The dataminer, TheMorse_, is the same person who dug through the 2018 game files and accurately predicted major beats of
Ragnarok long before it hit shelves. When this source finds a breadcrumb, there's usually a bakery at the end of the trail.
What the Datamine Exposed
The "Robed Figure" and the Mask
The leaked files contain dialogue scenes not found in the retail version of the game. One scene features a "Robed Figure" discussing Odin and Atreus. The conversation centers on the mysterious mask from
Ragnarok—the one capable of peering into a higher plane of existence. Based on the context, we believe this figure is Athena. Her reappearance suggests that the "higher power" teased in the Norse games is going to be the bridge to the next setting.
The "Mau" Connection
Another scene features Atreus talking to a character named "Mau." For those not caught up on your ancient linguistics, "Mau" is Egyptian for "cat," but it also translates to "sun." In that mythology, the sun god Ra is the top dog. If Atreus is already rubbing shoulders with Egyptian deities or their messengers, the transition is practically confirmed.
Our Take: A Game-Changer for the Saga
We’ve been tracking these hints for years. The Norse games weren't shy about showing Egyptian relics in Tyr’s vault, and there are even reports that Kratos will wield an Egyptian sword in the next outing.
The Norse saga was a masterpiece of storytelling, but it’s time for a change of scenery. Taking the Ghost of Sparta to the desert isn't just a cool visual shift; it opens up a massive new list of gods to fight and mythological puzzles to solve. Given the track record of Santa Monica Studio, we expect the jump to Egypt to be a massive win for the series. The files are there, the history is there, and now we just wait for the official word.
What’s your take? Is Egypt the right move, or are you hoping for a different mythos? Let us know in the comments.
