The Bottom Line on the Kiwami 3 Economy
In the world of *Yakuza*, cash is king, but in *Yakuza Kiwami 3* and the *Dark Ties* expansion, it’s the lifeblood of your progression. While it doesn't quite hit the "trillions of yen" insanity of *Yakuza 0*, we’ve found that money is more critical here than in almost any other modern entry. Whether you’re trying to survive a "Professional" difficulty run or just want to min-max Kiryu and Mine’s skill trees, you’re going to need a massive war chest early on.
Beyond just skills, the economy feeds directly into the Morning Glory Orphanage management and the new Bad Boy Dragon mini-game. If you aren't grinding efficiently, you’re going to feel the sting. Here is how we’re breaking down the fastest ways to fill those pockets.
Kiryu’s Campaign: From Orphanages to Underground Arenas
Playing as Kiryu requires a balance of "Dad Simulator" and street-fighting legend. To fund both lifestyles, you have three primary avenues.
The Forbidden Plate "Exploit"
This is a bit of a slow-burn strategy, but it’s a solid safety net. If you’ve been putting in work at the Morning Glory Orphanage via the Bulletin Board, you’ll eventually have surplus resources. You can trade for **Forbidden** and **Forbidden Plate Kiwami** plates at the Orphanage Shop. Take those to the nearest Pawn Shop, and you’re looking at an easy 100,000 yen. It’s not the fastest loop in the game, but for those of us hitting the endgame/Amon fights, it’s a reliable way to top off your funds.
The Coliseum Grind
A staple of the series, the Coliseum returns with the same depth we saw in the original Y3. We recommend waiting until the mid-game to really lean into this.
- Target Ranks: Skip the Bronze fights. For the best return on investment (ROI), stick to high-tier Silver or Gold rank fights.
- Speed Matters: Your payout is tied to your finishing grade. If you aren't clearing these 3-round bouts quickly, you're leaving money on the table.
The Reapers (Early Game King)
The old Hitman missions have been rebranded as "The Reapers." Kashiwagi handles the assignments this time. If you’re just starting out, this is our top recommendation. Taking down these targets can net you anywhere from tens of thousands to over 100,000 yen per hit. They can be sweaty fights depending on the difficulty rating, but the payout is essential for early-game skill unlocks.
Dark Ties: Mine’s Roguelite Money Maker
The *Dark Ties* campaign might be "bite-sized" compared to the main game, but Mine’s earning potential is actually much higher thanks to his aggressive playstyle and some specific new modes.
Hell’s Survival
This is the absolute gold mine of *Kiwami 3*. Unlocked alongside Hell's Arena after Chapter 1, this is a Roguelite-inspired dungeon crawl.
- The Loop: You fight through floors of enemies, collecting boons, weapons, and allies.
- The Payout: We’re talking millions upon millions of yen.
- The Risk: Because it’s a Roguelite, greed can kill your run. If a floor looks too "icky" or your health is flagging, bail out. You’ll keep your savings and can use them to fully upgrade Mine before diving back in.
Our Take
The decision to tie the economy so tightly to the Orphanage and the Bad Boy Dragon mini-game adds a layer of weight to the grind that was missing in some recent titles. If you’re a veteran looking to breeze through the Professional difficulty, prioritize the Reapers early with Kiryu and get Mine into Hell’s Survival as soon as Chapter 1 wraps. Stay greedy, but know when to cash out.
