The Paldea Power Creep: What’s Inside
The Pokémon Company just confirmed that Pokémon TCG Pocket is finally moving into the Scarlet and Violet era. On February 25, we’re getting "Paldean Wonders," a themed booster pack that officially brings the Gen 9 starters—Spirigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly—into the digital fold. We’ve seen these three dominate the physical TCG and the VGC, so their arrival here suggests a massive meta shift is imminent.
The Heavy Hitters: Meowscarada ex and Gholdengo ex
The big news for competitive players is the inclusion of Meowscarada ex and Gholdengo ex. In the standard TCG, Gholdengo is notorious for its "Make it Rain" energy-discarding mechanics, and we’re curious to see how that translates to the streamlined Pocket format. If Gholdengo ex maintains any of its card-draw or high-damage potential, it could easily become a Tier 0 threat. We’re also getting Maushold, which usually brings "Family Attack" multi-hit gimmicks that can be a nightmare to play against in limited formats.
Essential Trainer Support
You can’t have a meta without the right support, and Arven and Nemona are joining the roster alongside the Mesagoza stadium card. In the physical game, Arven is a staple for decks that rely on specific items and tools. If his Pocket version allows for similar deck-thinning, expect every high-tier deck to run a full playset.
Event Roadmap: A Busy March for Grinders
The Pokémon Company isn't just dropping the pack and walking away. They’ve laid out a roadmap that keeps the player base busy through the end of March. We’re looking at a steady stream of content that should help F2P players bridge the gap with the new set.
- Paldean Wonders Emblem Event (Late Feb – Early March): This is your standard PvP grind. Win battles, flex your new Paldean deck, and earn emblems and shinedust.
- Bonus Week Event (Early March): This is the one to circle on your calendar. We’ll be able to grind for pack hourglasses and special accessories. Our take? Save your energy for this week if you’re looking to min-max your collection.
- Charcadet Drop Event (Mid-to-Late March): Solo battles are back. You’ll be fighting for B Series promo packs (Vol. 5), with Charcadet likely being the star of the show.
- Wonder Pick Event (Mid-to-Late March): Pawmi and Paldean Clodsire are hitting the Wonder Pick boards. This event also introduces event shop tickets, which we can trade for specific promo cards—a much-needed QoL feature for those tired of RNG.
Our Take: The Gen 9 Injection
We believe this is exactly the shot in the arm TCG Pocket needs. While the initial sets were great for nostalgia, the Paldea region brings more complex mechanics that veteran players have been asking for. The staggered release of cosmetics on February 28 also gives the game a fresh look just as the new meta begins to settle. If you’ve been hoarding your gold and hourglasses, Feb 25 is the day to blow the stash.
