Elden Ring is Finally Coming to Nintendo Switch 2

If you have been waiting for a reason to jump into the Soulslike genre on Nintendo hardware, the recent Nintendo Direct finally provided some answers. Most notably, Elden Ring is officially heading to the Nintendo Switch 2. For those of us who have spent years navigating the landscape of Dark Souls on the original console, this marks a massive shift in the Gaming News cycle for the platform.

A New Wave of Soulslikes on Switch 2

While the original Switch was home to the genre-defining Dark Souls, the follow-ups remained absent, leaving a gap that many enthusiasts—myself included—were eager to fill. The Switch 2 is clearly changing that trend. In addition to Elden Ring, we now know that Lords of the Fallen 2 is set to arrive on the platform at launch, representing a significant technical leap for the console.

Perhaps the most pleasant surprise from the Direct was the announcement of Lies of P. I spent many hours in Krat on my PS5, and I am thrilled to see it coming to Switch 2 with the Overture expansion included in the package. It is a unique take on the Pinocchio narrative that stands out as one of the most interesting entries in the genre from recent years.

The Duskbloods and FromSoftware's Exclusive

Beyond existing titles, FromSoftware has announced a brand-new, exclusive project titled The Duskbloods. While its debut trailer led to some brief confusion regarding a potential Bloodborne connection, it is a standalone game from the studio. A network test is scheduled for later this summer, though we are still waiting on an exact date for the full release.

Other notable mentions include Mortal Shell 2, which has a 2026 release window. While the Switch 2 is currently missing from its official platform list, the fact that the original Mortal Shell eventually made it to the Nintendo Switch—and that the Switch 2 is clearly capable of running high-end Soulslikes—gives me hope that an announcement is coming closer to launch.

For those who prefer smaller-scale experiences, indie staples like Salt and Sanctuary and Salt and Sacrifice remain excellent choices on the original Switch, while the likes of Hollow Knight and Silksong continue to bridge the gap between Metroidvania and Soulslike mechanics on both the Switch and the upcoming hardware. Just remember: when you finally reach bosses like Malenia on your new console, keep an eye on your grip if you are playing in handheld mode.
