Hollow Knight: Silksoul Mod Aims to Restore Cut Silksong Content

If you have already spent your 60 to 70 hours completing everything Hollow Knight: Silksong has to offer, you might be looking for a reason to return to Pharloom. A new fanmade expansion project, Hollow Knight: Silksoul, is currently in development with the specific goal of bringing unused concepts and cut content back into the experience.

⚡ Quick Facts
  • Project Name: Hollow Knight: Silksoul (Fan Expansion)
  • Key Features: Restored cut areas, new mechanics, and increased difficulty
  • Restored Content: Red Coral Gorge, The Gloom, and adjustments to Hunter's March
  • Release Window: To be determined

Restoring the Lost Areas of Pharloom

The development cycle for Hollow Knight: Silksong was lengthy, and as a result, several aspects previewed by Team Cherry never made it into the final version of the game. The team behind Silksoul is working to remedy this by implementing these missing pieces. According to the project's trailer description, players can look forward to exploring areas such as the Red Coral Gorge and The Gloom.

The developers are also refining existing map layouts to better reflect earlier iterations of the game. Specifically, the Hunter's March (also referred to as the Hunter's Nest) is being adjusted to align more closely with the map design from April 2021. The team expressed that some of these cut areas, particularly those involving the ants, deserved more justice than they received in the final release.

New Mechanics and Heightened Difficulty

Beyond geography, the mod aims to reintroduce gameplay mechanics that were swapped out during Silksong’s development. The name Silksoul itself acts as a reference to a specific mode found in game builds from around April 2021. The mod will also feature fresh secrets and character interactions for players to discover.

For those who feel the base game didn't offer enough of a challenge, the mod aims to heighten the overall difficulty. While the project is clearly ambitious, the team behind it has not yet provided a concrete release window. Those interested in following the progress of the expansion can join the community Discord server to stay updated on the status of the development.
