Stuntman: Hollywood Debuts at State of Play, But Where is the Switch 2 Port?

The Stuntman franchise has been dormant since 2007’s Stuntman: Ignition, making its surprise return during the recent State of Play showcase a massive moment for fans of the series. Stuntman: Hollywood looks to capture the same addictive "flow state" as its predecessors, tasking players with acting as both the driver and the film crew to nail perfect shots under high-pressure conditions.

Seeing set pieces based on Back to the Future and Miami Vice was a major highlight, arguably stealing the show for many viewers. However, one glaring omission remains: the absence of a Nintendo Switch 2 announcement.

The Pipeline Problem

While the original 2003 Stuntman title was a unique outlier on the Game Boy Advance, the series has historically been more at home on PlayStation platforms. Despite the technical capability of the Switch 2—which already supports demanding titles like Hitman World of Assassination, Cyberpunk 2077, and the upcoming 007 First Light—developers are still navigating the realities of a new hardware launch cycle.

The hurdles are largely logistical rather than technical. Developer kits for the Switch 2 were not easily acquired before or after the console's launch, leaving studios in the cold. Similar to the delays faced by the Warframe port, third-party publishers are currently prioritizing established platforms like the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. By focusing on these platforms first, developers can ensure their performance targets are met before reassessing the feasibility of a Nintendo port.

A History of Hard Knocks

For those who remember the series' roots, the original GBA Stuntman was an ambitious, "tough as nails" experience that felt more in line with early OutRun titles than the PS2 version. It occupies a specific space in Nintendo history alongside ports like Max Payne and Everything or Nothing—games that were punishingly difficult but undeniably charming in their jankiness.

While Stuntman: Hollywood remains absent from the Nintendo lineup for now, the excitement for the title is palpable. It is a clear frontrunner for many, and for those on the move, the game is poised to be a major test for portable hardware. Personally, I am looking forward to seeing how it runs on the ROG Ally Z1E, and a potential Steam Deck verification would be the perfect addition to the experience.
