The game, which has now surpassed 750,000 units sold, continues its momentum with a focus on both harder gameplay and optional aesthetic customization.
Manufacture Hard Mode and Gameplay Changes
The free Update 1.1 introduces Manufacture Hard Mode, designed for players seeking a more punishing experience. Unlike standard modes, this version increases the pressure by introducing complex shape goals and advanced mechanics—such as Crystal shapes and pins—much earlier in the progression. The update also features new layouts for Trade Stations, requiring more foresight to keep factory lines efficient.
To help manage the added complexity, the developers have implemented a new Additional Content menu in both the main and pause screens. This allows players to toggle skins and manage music packs without navigating external Steam settings. For those who own the Supporter Edition, an automatic update now provides an industrial-style Vortex cosmetic with an amber-gold glow, complementing the existing content from the August 2024 launch.
Modding and Stability Warning
The developer has issued a clear warning regarding mod compatibility: Update 1.1 will likely break existing mods, potentially causing crashes. For players concerned about their current setups, the team has provided two official workarounds:

Hyper Skin DLC
The Hyper Skin DLC is available for $3.99 USD (€3.99 / £3.49) and serves as a purely cosmetic addition. It applies a white, hexagonal, futuristic aesthetic to the Vortex and various train components, including the Locomotive, Shape Wagon, Fluid Wagon, and Space Wagon. The developer notes that the DLC does not provide any gameplay advantages or production boosts, serving instead as a way for players to support the game's ongoing development.
While no specific performance benchmarks or platform-specific certifications for Linux or Steam Deck were confirmed in this announcement, the game remains available via Steam. Currently, shapez 2 is seeing promotional pricing, with a 40% discount on Steam and a 20% discount on the Humble Store.
