Aethermancer's Alchemical Awakening Update Adds New Biome and Monsters

Developer Moi Rai Games has released the Alchemical Awakening update for their monster-taming roguelite, Aethermancer. Currently in Steam Early Access with an 84% positive review rating, the title continues to expand its systems with this latest content drop, which is available now for PC, Linux, and Steam Deck users.

⚡ Quick Facts
  • Developer: Moi Rai Games
  • Platform: PC, Linux, Steam Deck
  • Update Status: Live Now
  • Total Monster Count: 40 (plus 18 new shifted forms)

A New Way to Start Your Run

The centerpiece of this update is the Alchemical Woods, an alternate tier-1 biome. Designed to keep early-game runs from feeling repetitive, it offers a fresh starting point for players who have already completed the base difficulty and crafted at least 15 monster mementos. Beyond the environment itself, the woods introduce new interactables and Monsterkin to Pilgrim’s Rest, focusing on support-oriented gameplay.

Echo and the New Monster Roster

The update introduces a new monster type called Echo, which significantly alters how support abilities function. When a monster accumulates enough Echo stacks, it can repeat support actions, such as healing or shielding, though Echoed actions cannot trigger the effect again. This mechanic is intended to make support builds more aggressive and strategic.

In total, Aethermancer now features 40 monsters, thanks to the addition of nine new creatures in this update. These include:

  • Ranger: Uses Earth and Fire types with Stealth capabilities.
  • Kullervo: A troublemaker whose big attacks count as support actions, allowing them to benefit from Echo stacks.
  • Caduceus: Capable of healing, poisoning, and cleansing debuffs.
  • Ettin: The game's first pure tank, which deals damage exclusively through Retaliate.
  • Living Armor, Snallygaster, Stiltskin, Faerie, and Bronze Lion: Each adds unique utility, ranging from shield management and weakness damage to duplicating buffs and borrowing actions from other team members.

Players can also experiment with 18 new shifted versions of these monsters, offering further depth for team building.

Challenging the New Deity

For those reaching the end of a run, the update introduces Khepri, a new Monster Deity themed around heat and the sun. The game now randomly assigns either Chernobog or Khepri as the final boss based on difficulty settings, with higher difficulty levels providing a more unpredictable experience.

Other additions include a renaming of difficulty levels to "Vestiges," the inclusion of food items sold by the Merchant, and updated music tracks featuring live instrument recordings. Accessibility has also been addressed with a new option to replace white flashes with grey screens, and the combat inspector has received a series of quality-of-life refinements. Aethermancer is currently available on Steam.
