Dead by Daylight’s 10th Anniversary Brings Visual Overhaul and Jason Voorhees

Behaviour Interactive is pulling out all the stops for Dead by Daylight’s 10th anniversary. During an extensive 90-minute livestream, the developer revealed an ambitious roadmap that promises to fundamentally change the asymmetrical horror experience, starting with the long-awaited arrival of Jason Voorhees in the fog.

The update schedule is packed with high-profile collaborations. Alongside Jason, players can look forward to a new survivor, a Native American character named Shane Wiigwaas. The developer also confirmed future crossovers with Scooby-Doo and Damien Leone’s Terrifier. For those looking for cosmetic updates, Iron Maiden’s mascot, Eddie, is getting a skin, while Silent Hill f character Hinako Shimizu will be introduced as a new skin for existing survivor Cheryl Mason.

A Massive Visual and Environmental Overhaul

Perhaps the most significant announcement is a complete visual recreation of the game arriving in 2027. This isn't a minor polish; Behaviour is rebuilding existing models from the ground up, including new animations, hair physics, and updated voice lines.

The environment is also getting a major facelift. The team is recreating many of the game's maps and introducing dynamic weather systems. Matches will now feature variable conditions ranging from light drizzles to full-blown thunderstorms, intended to make every session feel distinct. Additionally, a new mall map featuring liminal spaces is currently in development, a project specifically inspired by community feedback.

Expanding the Franchise

Beyond the core game, the Dead by Daylight universe continues to expand. Thordur Palsson, known for The Valhalla Murders, has been tapped to direct the upcoming film project. Furthermore, The Casting of Frank Stone—the narrative spin-off from Supermassive Games—is being integrated into the main title.

Players can dive into the festivities later this month with "The Black Banquet," an in-game event designed to commemorate the 10th anniversary.

While the developer has faced scrutiny regarding the creation of a generative AI department, Behaviour maintains that the technology will not be used to ship any in-game content. As of now, there is no evidence to suggest otherwise. With a decade of service behind it, Dead by Daylight is clearly positioning itself to remain a staple of the horror genre for years to come.
