Dead by Daylight Will Not Get a Sequel, Behaviour Announces

Ten years into its lifespan, Dead by Daylight is officially moving into a new era. After growing from a modest roster of three killers to 43 terrors—including the long-awaited arrival of Jason—developer Behaviour Interactive has confirmed exactly how it plans to handle the future of its flagship asymmetrical horror game.

⚡ Quick Facts
  • Developer: Behaviour Interactive
  • Sequel Status: No Dead by Daylight 2 planned
  • Visual Overhaul Window: 2027
  • New 1v1 Mode: Early 2027
  • New Killer: Art the Clown (November)

Evolving Instead of Replacing

For players wondering if a Dead by Daylight 2 was on the horizon, Executive Producer José Ramos was clear: "We have always said that it's not something we want to explore. Starting over would be leaving too much behind." Instead, the team is focusing on a colossal update, currently slated for 2027, that will rebuild the game's visuals from the ground up to heighten the sense of fear and suspense.

The overhaul includes a new rig for better movement, improved facial animations, and enhanced character models with better hair rendering. Maps will also receive significant lighting and shading upgrades, along with a new dynamic weather system that promises to alter gameplay flow. According to Creative Director Dave Richards, this effort is being handled by a separate team from the core squad to ensure the main game remains stable while the upgrade is in development.

New Modes and Community Agency

Behaviour is also looking to put more power into players' hands. Alongside the visual changes, the studio is introducing creative modding to the game. Furthermore, several new game modes are in the works. The first to arrive will be a 1v1 experience in early 2027, described as a competitive, best-of-three mode featuring no perks or items. A zombie mode, intended to capture the feel of a "zombie apocalypse movie," is also in development, though it remains further out.

Anniversary Updates and Licensed Icons

The 10-year anniversary event brings the addition of Shane Wiigwaas, the game’s first Indigenous character. Voiced by Dallas Goldtooth, Wiigwaas is a lawyer from the Anishinaabe community searching for his cousin, who disappeared in a mysterious, fog-shrouded event. Behaviour also confirmed it is beginning a long-term initiative to add voiceover to previous survivors, starting at the end of this year.

For those looking for new scares, the upcoming calendar is packed. Art the Clown from Terrifier is set to enter the fog this November. Additionally, a new zone inspired by liminal spaces and the history of Dwight Fairfield is arriving, alongside a dedicated chapter for Frank Stone from The Casting of Frank Stone in 2027. The game will also feature a wave of new collaborations, including Iron Maiden, Ice Nine Kills, The Walking Dead, Silent Hill, Diablo, and Scooby Doo.

While the team noted that all visual previews are works in progress and dates could shift, the message from the studio is clear: Dead by Daylight isn't going anywhere—it is just getting a major facelift.
