Moss: The Forgotten Relic Brings VR Adventure to Xbox on July 16

Polyarc’s acclaimed adventure series Moss is officially breaking its PlayStation VR exclusivity. On July 16, 2026, the developer will release Moss: The Forgotten Relic, a collection that merges the campaigns of the original Moss and Moss II into a single, cohesive story for modern platforms.
The title is heading to a wide range of hardware, including Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC via Steam. For Xbox fans who have long watched the mouse-led adventure from the sidelines, this marks the first opportunity to experience the series on the big black box.
From VR to Controller
The transition from a VR-exclusive environment to traditional console controllers is a significant pivot for the franchise. A 30-minute demo, currently available on Steam, provides a glimpse into how Polyarc has adapted the experience. The gameplay remains largely a 3D adventure-platformer where players control Quill, a mouse navigating through chambers, fighting off scarabs, and solving environmental puzzles.
The "Reader" mechanic—previously designed for VR—now utilizes the controller's right stick. In this mode, players act as a ghostly entity that can interact with the environment to clear paths for Quill. Whether it is pushing and pulling pistons or manipulating objects to create bridges, the core puzzle-solving remains intact, though the tactile, immersive feeling of the original VR release is replaced by standard button and stick inputs.
What to Expect
Beyond the mechanical changes, the game retains the core elements that defined the series. Players will guide Quill through varied environments, ranging from jungle exteriors to industrial, furnace-like interiors. The combat system remains, featuring a hammer weapon that requires players to anticipate enemy movements due to deliberate attack animations. The "Reader" role also allows for strategic play, such as placing a phantom hammer in the environment to trigger pressure pads at a distance.
While the demo highlights a polished experience, it leaves some questions regarding how the full scope of combat and character abilities will feel without the VR gimmick. However, for those looking to jump into the world of Quill and the conflict against The Keeper, the wait is nearly over. Moss: The Forgotten Relic launches on July 16, 2026.
