Remedy Confirms No Generative AI Used in Control Resonant

Remedy Entertainment is doubling down on its commitment to human-led creativity for its upcoming title, Control Resonant. Ahead of the game's September 24, 2026 release, Lead Gameplay Designer Sergey Mohov has confirmed that the studio steered clear of generative AI throughout the entire development process.
"We're very much artists and designers, and everybody really cares about making sure that the game is made by us," Mohov explained. "We believe in the creative freedom of the artist to make the art, so I think it was a pretty natural thing overall for the company."
Expanding the Hiss Threat
While Control Resonant moves the action from the halls of the Oldest House to the streets of a twisted Manhattan, it retains the series' signature aesthetic—including the stark red-and-black color palette and the unsettling FMV sequences. However, the sequel introduces a significant evolution in enemy design.
Mohov highlighted the Hiss-infested bus as a prime example of how the enemy force has grown more dangerous. Unlike the original game, where the Hiss mostly possessed human hosts, this new iteration can merge people with vehicles and environmental geometry. The bus enemy, which hovers vertically while passengers claw from the windows, serves as a recurring, high-stakes encounter that even features a unique execution animation where the player can force it to explode from within.
The Role of Music
Music has long been a pillar of Remedy’s narrative style, from the iconic "Ashtray Maze" in the first Control to the "Herald of Darkness" sequence in Alan Wake 2. While Mohov declined to confirm if a similar musical spectacle awaits players in Control Resonant, he did emphasize that music remains central to the experience.
Fans got a taste of this during the Summer Game Fest showcase, which featured a track titled "Manalan Mailla" by Finnish folk singer Vilma Jää. The song, which translates to "the land of Manala"—a reference to the underworld in Finnish mythology—was custom-written for the game and is deeply tied to its story. Mohov noted that for those looking for clues about the journey ahead, translating the lyrics might provide some insight into the plot.
Control Resonant arrives on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X on September 24, 2026.
