GTA 6 PC Release: Will You Miss Out on Exclusive Shop Content?

Rockstar Games dropped a major update on June 24, 2026, regarding Grand Theft Auto VI, and for those of us waiting for the PC version, the news brings a mix of frustration and historical precedent to consider. While the studio has confirmed that the standard edition of the game will carry an $80 price tag, the inclusion of "ultimate edition" exclusives—specifically five shops locked behind a $20 premium—is raising questions about what PC players will actually get when the game finally hits our platform.

Looking Back at the GTA 5 'Editions Soup'

To understand what might happen with GTA 6, it is worth looking at how Rockstar handled the PC launch of Grand Theft Auto V. The game arrived on PC in April 2015, roughly 18 months after its initial console release. Because the PC version was delayed, it launched as a "tarted-up" enhanced edition, designed to entice players who had already bought the game on PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 to purchase it again.

Back then, Rockstar bridged the gap by bundling a significant amount of special and collector's edition content into the base PC release. Stunt plane trials and character ancestry features were made available to everyone for free. Other items, like specific weapons, vehicles, and clothing, were moved into the in-game economy rather than being locked behind a physical collector's box. PC players only really missed out on a few specific rewards that were reserved for "returning" Social Club members—those who had played the original console versions.

The $20 Shop Paywall

The current situation with Grand Theft Auto VI feels more restrictive. Rockstar has explicitly stated that five shops—including the Electric Fang tattoo parlor and the car mod shop One-eyed Willie’s—are "only open for business with the ultimate edition."

If the studio follows the pattern established by the GTA 5 enhanced edition, there is a strong possibility that these shops could be bundled into the PC version at launch. It would be a logical way to encourage a second purchase from players who already own the console version. However, the monetization landscape has shifted significantly over the last decade. If Rockstar does not feel the need to offer extra incentives to lure players over from a "previous gen" console, the argument for including that content for free on PC becomes much weaker.

For now, those of us on PC are left waiting. While it is easy to shrug off exclusive t-shirts or a buggy, being locked out of entire storefronts simply because we prefer to play on a PC is a different frustration entirely. Hopefully, when the time comes, Rockstar opts for transparency and allows all PC players access to the full breadth of the game's world, rather than keeping those shop doors shuttered.
