Valorant's New Map 'Summit' Launches June 24 With Permanent Terrain Changes

After days of cryptic easter eggs and teasers at VCT Masters London, Riot Games has officially unveiled Summit, the latest addition to the Valorant map roster. Set high in China’s Tianmen Mountain, the map serves as a blend of a traditional meditation facility and a high-stakes Radiant training ground.
Visually, the map balances the serene, curved architecture of a monastery with the gritty, brutalist aesthetic common to the Valorant universe. But according to game designer Diego Varona, the real draw isn't just the scenery—it’s a radical shift in how players interact with the environment.
Permanent Terrain Changes
Summit introduces a mechanic that forces players to adapt mid-round: shootable switches that trigger heavy doors. Unlike the doors on Lotus, these are one-way streets. Once you trigger a switch, the door slams shut for the rest of the round. You cannot shoot it down or reopen it, effectively deleting sightlines and blocking off potential retake routes for the duration of the match.
“You can’t shoot the wall down, you can’t raise it back up,” Varona explains. “The map is technically changed until the end of the round.” This mechanic is designed to punish static playstyles, particularly for Operator users who may find their previously dominant angles suddenly rendered useless as the map layout shifts around them.
- Map Size: Smaller than recent additions like Corrode and Abyss.
- Launch Date: June 24, 2026.
- Competitive Status: Available for competitive play immediately upon release.
- Bonus: Players lose 50% less RR on Summit losses for the first two weeks.
Skirmish-Heavy Design
Summit is notably smaller than recent additions to the game, focusing on medium-to-close range engagements. While long-range sightlines exist when doors are open, the closing mechanic naturally forces players into tighter, faster-paced gunfights. Varona notes that agents who excel in skirmishes, such as Omen and Iso, will likely see the most success on the map.
The map also experiments with non-traditional geometry. While Valorant players are accustomed to 90-degree "sacred" combat corners, Summit incorporates curved walls in its meditation center areas. The design team has been careful to ensure that actual combat corners retain their tactical 90-degree alignment, while non-essential cover features the softer, flowing curves of the map's Eastern-inspired aesthetic.
What Else Is Coming?
The launch of Summit coincides with a broader update. Players can look forward to the new 3v3 Retake mode, which features randomized loadouts and frequent side-swapping. Additionally, the update will introduce the Blackspyre skin collection and a fresh Battle Pass. For those looking to master the new terrain, Riot is offering a two-week period where players will lose 50% less Ranked Rating (RR) for losses on Summit, alongside a dedicated Summit-only queue.
