Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader Update Buffs Operatives and Uralon

Owlcat Games has released a massive new update for Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, arriving alongside the latest add-on, The Infinite Museion. For players who have been struggling with the game's underperforming archetypes, this patch offers a significant shift in how some of the most difficult character builds function.

⚡ Quick Facts
  • Game: Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader
  • Developer: Owlcat Games
  • Latest Add-on: The Infinite Museion
  • Key Changes: Buffs to Operatives, Assassins, and Uralon the Cruel

Balancing the Glassjaws

The primary focus of this balance pass is addressing the game’s weakest archetypes: Operatives and Assassins. Previously, Operatives were often overshadowed by the Soldier archetype in ranged damage output, while Assassins struggled to keep pace with the more durable Executioner.

The update changes how these classes interact with the game’s action economy. Crucially, the keystone abilities for both Operatives and Assassins now function during bonus turns, such as those provided by the Officer class. Given that Rogue Trader’s high-difficulty combat often revolves around maximizing these extra turns, this change could be transformative for players looking to optimize their squads. Additionally, Owlcat has implemented a general buff to the Operative’s ability suite.

Uralon the Cruel Receives Improvements

Chaos Marine antagonist Uralon the Cruel—a staple for players embarking on "bad guy" Chaos playthroughs—has also received a much-needed overhaul. Previously considered mechanically underwhelming compared to other story companions or even generic mercenaries, Uralon has been boosted through significant improvements to his base stats, scaling, and loot pool.

While the patch is heavy on balance adjustments, it also includes a wide variety of bug fixes. Notably, the team has addressed a persistent issue at the cultist hideout at Rykad Minoris, where interacting with objects would previously cause an endless loop of trauma. Owlcat has avoided nerfing existing popular setups, meaning players can continue to utilize high-end combinations like Bladedancer-Executioners without fear of their builds being dismantled.

Owlcat remains a busy studio in 2026. Beyond supporting Rogue Trader, the developer is currently working on The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, as well as the upcoming CRPG Warhammer 40K: Dark Heresy.
