Cozy Cleaning Sim 'Clean Start' Confirmed for Linux, Mac, and Windows

Developer Serious Sim and publisher Amplified have announced that their upcoming cozy cleaning and organizing title, Clean Start, is slated for a Q4 2026 release. The game is confirmed to support native play on Linux, Mac, and Windows, marking a notable win for the Linux gaming community.

Cleaning as a Narrative Tool

In Clean Start, players step into the shoes of Lena, a young woman navigating life in a new country. Her work involves cleaning and organizing the homes of others, but the gameplay aims for something deeper than simple chores. As you sort through belongings—an old letter, a tucked-away toy, or a half-finished room—you begin to uncover the stories of those who lived there.

Director and artist Katarzyna Haptas describes the project as a "cozy, narrative-driven cleaning game." The experience is designed to be meditative, focusing on slow progress and emotional connection rather than high-stakes timers or fail states. A central mechanic involves the language barrier Lena faces; because she does not fully understand the local language, the act of cleaning becomes a way to bridge the gap between her and the people who previously occupied these spaces.

A Personal Approach to Development

The narrative core of the game draws from the real-world experiences of the development team. Haptas noted that many associated with the project are familiar with the realities of economic migration in the 1990s, particularly the experiences of women who moved abroad for domestic work. The goal is to present a narrative that acknowledges the struggle of being far from home while maintaining a warm, human-centric tone.

The interest in the project is already building, with the game recently passing 30,000 wishlists on Steam. While the studio has not yet confirmed official Steam Deck support, the game's deliberate, meditative pacing may make it a strong candidate for handheld play in the future.
