A fresh update has landed for Minecraft Java Edition. Version 26.2, titled 'Chaos Cubed,' introduces a significant technical overhaul alongside a suite of new content, including the highly anticipated official Friends List system.

The headline feature of this update is the Sulfur Cube, a mob that interacts with the world by absorbing loose mineral, soil, and building blocks. Once a block is absorbed, the cube's AI is disabled, and it shifts into a specific archetype based on the material consumed. These archetypes drastically change how the mob behaves:
- Regular: The default state when absorbing minerals or soil; buoyant with balanced movement.
- Bouncy: Triggered by wood blocks, offering high speed and bounciness.
- Sticky: Created by absorbing Honeycomb, featuring extreme ground friction.
- Explosive: Absorbs TNT and can be primed by redstone, fire, or nearby explosions.
- Hot: Absorbs Magma blocks to damage nearby entities on contact.
Other variations include the Slow Bouncy (stone), Slow Flat (metal), Fast Flat (organic), Light (wool), Fast Sliding (ice), Slow Sliding (shroom), and High Resistance (Soul Sand/Soil) archetypes.
Technical Improvements and New Additions
Beyond the new mob, version 26.2 brings significant technical changes. PC players now have experimental support for the Vulkan API, which can be selected via the new 'Graphics API' option in Video Settings. This is a major step for performance-conscious players looking to optimize their PC gaming experience.
The update also rounds out the world with the new Sulfur Caves biome, along with associated block sets like Cinnabar and Sulfur. For the music lovers, the game now includes six new tracks by fingerspit, including the track "Bounce" featured on a new music disc.
