Where Giants Fall Brings Bullet-Heaven Action to Linux and Steam Deck

Everclear Games is bringing a fresh take to the bullet-heaven genre with Where Giants Fall, a 3D top-down action roguelite heading to Linux, Steam Deck, and Windows. The title is currently listed on Steam, promising a blend of fast-paced fantasy combat and strategic decision-making.
A Run Built Around Pressure
The core of Where Giants Fall centers on navigating fantasy biomes while managing increasing environmental pressure. Unlike many survivors-like titles that focus on overwhelming damage output, this game prioritizes positioning, timing, and reading enemy attacks. Players survive through regular stages, disrupt Ritual Sieges to prevent dormant giants from growing too strong, and face off against bosses before the cycle resets with higher intensity. Once the final boss falls, the game transitions into an Endless Mode.
Tactical Weapon Ultimates
While the game features auto-firing weapons to allow players to focus on movement, the design introduces a layer of manual control at higher levels. Once a weapon reaches level 10, it unlocks a manual ultimate ability with a cooldown. This system forces players to make active choices—such as whether to save a Starfang Tempest or Glacial Wall for a boss or use them to clear an elite pack.
The current list of weapon ultimates includes:
- Astral Fangs: Starfang Tempest
- Manaburst: Singularity
- Chain Lightning: Tempest Ascension
- Frostwave: Glacial Wall
- Golden Gun: King’s Judgment
- Grenade: Carpet Bombardment
- Machine Gun: Bullet Frenzy
- Plague Spitter: Pandemic Protocol
- Razor Shuriken: Shuriken Tempest
- Demonlash: Maw of Ruin
- Ancient Spirits: Ancestral Storm
Active Abilities and Build Variety
Beyond weapons, Where Giants Fall utilizes active abilities that allow players to freeze crowds, pull enemies into traps, or heal under pressure. These can be further modified or added through optional trials during a run. By integrating weapon upgrade tracks, passive items, and beacon rewards, the developers aim to ensure that no two runs feel identical.
For players focused on performance, the native Linux release is a major highlight. While Steam Deck support is currently a target rather than a confirmed verification status, the commitment to native Linux development suggests a focus on the smooth input and frame pacing required for a PC gaming experience of this type. Everclear Games has also confirmed the title will be a single-purchase experience, free from microtransactions or paid power-ups.
