Noble Legacy Survival Update Adds Hunger, Hygiene, and Free Dogs

Medieval colony sim Noble Legacy just received its most significant overhaul since entering early access. The new Survival Update shifts the game’s focus toward realism, introducing a suite of mechanics that demand closer attention to your character's physical needs and environmental surroundings.

If you are jumping back into Kingdom Mode, be prepared to start fresh. Developer Studio 369 notes that because of the foundational changes to progression, a new save is required to experience the updated systems. Creative Mode worlds, however, remain untouched.

Survival Mechanics and New Biomes

The update fundamentally changes the opening hours of the game. Players must now survive their first days in the Greenwood region before establishing a settlement, forcing you to engage with new systems for cooking, hunting, and crafting. To stay alive, you will need to monitor several new stats:

  • Hunger: Keep your supplies stocked to maintain health.
  • Warmth: Manage your temperature to survive the elements.
  • Energy: Rest is now essential for survival.
  • Hygiene: You must now bathe to wash off the grime of labor.

Exploration has also been expanded with the addition of new lakes, ponds, and a distinct poplar forest biome. Resources across the map have been rebalanced to encourage players to move between regions. New crafting recipes include roasted mushrooms, wild meat skewers, basic bandages, and salves. You can also craft torches and utilize wild flax, a new resource added to the world.

Housing and Save System Changes

Progression has been streamlined to allow for earlier access to player housing. Rather than waiting for the late-game Lord's Manor, you can now build a basic home early to set up a steward's workbench and desk. These buildings serve as the foundation for the game's upcoming marriage and legacy features.

Perhaps the most impactful change is the removal of traditional manual saves. You now record your progress by going to sleep. While resting at night fully restores your health and energy while advancing the camp's timeline, you can also use your bed during the day to save your progress without the full restorative effects. The developer states this change is intended to add tension and make survival decisions feel more consequential.

Looking Ahead

For those seeking an even greater challenge, the Custom Game options now include an optional permadeath setting. Studio 369 plans to expand this in the future with a legacy system that allows players to continue their story through an heir once family and marriage mechanics are fully implemented.

The next major milestone for the game will be the "Hearth and Heart" update, which will focus on household management, children, and marriage. In the meantime, the game is currently 30% off on Steam through July 9, bringing the price down to $17.49 / £14.69. As a bonus for early adopters, the developer is including the Alaunt War Dog companion DLC for free for a limited time.
