Ranking the Marvel Super Heroes Commander Decks

With spoiler season for the Magic: The Gathering Marvel Super Heroes set officially behind us, players are looking at four new preconstructed Commander decks. Unlike recent releases that only featured two decks—such as the Lorwyn Eclipsed set with its Dance of the Elements and Blight Curse options—this Marvel crossover gives us a full slate of four decks, each with distinct strategies and color identities.

We’ve put these decks to the test to see how they perform straight out of the box, ranking them based on their ability to execute their themes without immediate modification.

4. Doom Prevails

The Doom Prevails deck, featuring Doctor Doom, King of Latveria in Grixis colors, is built around a villain and discard theme. While the deck executes its strategy, it does so slowly. The primary goal is to use your commander to have a villain creature connive at the start of combat, allowing you to filter cards and amass an army or drain opponent life totals through discard triggers.

The major drawback here is a lack of card draw. As you connive, you end up spinning your wheels rather than building true card advantage. It is a theme with potential, but the deck is currently trying to do too many things without excelling at any of them.

3. The Fantastic Four

Representing the team in four colors, The Fantastic Four deck centers on non-creature spells. While you can choose from four different commanders, Mister Fantastic is widely considered the best option. The deck is built around teamwork and copying triggers, which feels thematic, but it struggles under the limitations of a preconstructed build.

The biggest issue is that the deck lacks the proper support and a consistent manabase to execute its theme perfectly. In fact, the most powerful thing you can do with this deck out of the box is often to ignore the intended theme entirely and focus on Galactus, Devourer of Worlds. When the best play is to abandon the deck's core strategy, there is a fundamental design problem.

2. Wakanda Forever

Wakanda Forever is a Green/White deck led by T'Challa, the Black Panther that focuses on an artifact-heavy, Voltron-style strategy. The goal is to equip your commander or other creatures to create an unkillable threat. Like Doom Prevails, it fails to execute its theme perfectly, but it earns a higher spot because it is easier to pilot through those flaws.

While the core artifacts make sense, the deck is hindered by confusing inclusions. Cards like Fleecemane Lion and Loyal Guardian feel like generic additions that do little to support the artifact-heavy game plan. However, it remains a strong candidate for future upgrades.

1. Avengers Assemble

Avengers Assemble is the standout of the set. This Jeskai-colored deck features Captain America, Team Leader and focuses on a Hero Typal theme. It is the most complete deck, requiring the least amount of work to be competitive at a table.

Wizards of the Coast succeeded here by providing exciting new Hero cards—Black Widow, Agile Avenger is a particular highlight—while also including a reliable removal suite. By including staples like Swords to Plowshares and Arcane Denial alongside the hero-themed cards, Avengers Assemble offers a cohesive experience that is well-equipped to hold its own against fine-tuned decks.
