Steam Stable Update Adds Pipewire Improvements and Remote Play Upgrades

Valve has released a new stable update for the Steam client across all platforms. Rolling out on June 23, 2026, this patch pulls in several features previously tested in the Steam Beta, with specific focus on Linux performance and expanded options for Remote Play.
Remote Play and Streaming Enhancements
For those who rely on Remote Play, this update introduces more granular control over streaming quality. You can now select a 100 Mbit/s bandwidth cap directly from the streaming overlay. Additionally, the “Unlimited” bandwidth option has been expanded to support adaptive bitrates up to 250 MBit/s, provided you are connected to the current Steam beta. Valve has also added a new button to the streaming overlay that allows you to toggle the performance graph on or off at your convenience.
Linux-Specific Improvements
Linux users—particularly those on the Steam Deck or desktop systems—receive several quality-of-life updates. The client now features improved Pipewire session logic; if you grant persistent capture permissions, Steam will only maintain an active Pipewire session while you are actively streaming or recording. For Steam Deck owners specifically, a fix has been applied to address an issue where Scaling, Filtering, and Sharpening options were missing from the performance menu.
Controller and Input Updates
The Steam Input team has been busy with a variety of fixes and additions. Windows users running Steam with the -gameinput command line option can now support more than four Xbox controllers if GameInput v3 is installed. Furthermore, the client now adds support for GameCube rumble when using an adapter in PC mode.
The update also addresses several bugs within the controller configurator, including:
- Fixes for the selected action set resetting during edits.
- Resolutions for virtual menus assigned to mode shifts failing to add bindings.
- Corrected behavior for exported templates that previously required a client restart to appear.
- A fix for a rumble-related handle leak in the Xbox Extended Feature driver.
General Fixes and Additions
Beyond input and streaming, the update includes broader store and interface changes. Steam now supports the Malay language, and the controller pairing UI has been refreshed. Valve also noted fixes for video autoplay issues and a bug that caused webusb notifications to trigger incorrectly for some devices. In the Friends & Chat section, a bug that caused gamepad navigation to lock up after selecting “Ignore All” on friend invites has been resolved.
Finally, the in-game overlay performance monitor has been updated to correctly display DLSS usage in scenarios where the system was previously misidentifying the technology as Frame Generation (FG).
