Strikers Club Brings Physics-Driven Soccer to Steam Deck via Proton

If you're tired of soccer games that feel like they're playing themselves, Strikers Club might be the antidote. Developer Oddshot Games, the studio known for Slapshot: Rebound, is bringing its physics-driven soccer simulation to PC, and the free demo is live right now as part of the Steam Next Fest: June 2026 Edition.

Unlike traditional titles that rely on canned animations to dictate the flow of the match, Strikers Club puts the outcome entirely in your hands. Every pass, dribble, and shot is governed by physics, meaning you have to earn your space on the pitch. It’s a design philosophy that aims to remove the “magic” and replace it with direct, skill-based control.

The Steam Deck and Linux Outlook

For the Linux and Steam Deck community, the outlook is cautiously optimistic. While there is no native Linux build, Oddshot Games is targeting compatibility through Steam’s Proton layer. Crucially, the studio confirmed it is not utilizing any incompatible anti-cheat software, which is the most common hurdle for getting multiplayer games running on SteamOS.

Because the game is built in Unreal Engine 5, the developer has stated they will look into any specific Linux or Proton-related issues that arise. That said, as of now, there is no official Steam Deck verification status, and performance benchmarks have yet to be shared. If you are planning to jump in on a handheld, keep an eye on your frame pacing and controller response during the demo period; in a physics-based game, input latency is the difference between a goal and a turnover.

Gameplay Mechanics and Match Sizes

The demo offers a look at a wide range of match types. While quickplay matchmaking currently focuses on 5v5 scenarios, custom matches can scale all the way up to 11v11. Whether you are looking for a tight 1v1 duel or full-squad chaos, the game aims to facilitate both.

Oddshot is also introducing systems to move Strikers Club beyond a simple arcade experience:

  • Playstyles: Customization for how you move and compete on the pitch.
  • Skill Moves: Tools designed to outmaneuver defenders with precision.
  • Foul System: The inclusion of yellow and red cards, along with free kicks, adds a layer of risk to reckless challenges.

These features are being shaped by community feedback. The developers are active in their official Discord, gathering input on balance and matchmaking throughout the festival. If you participate in the demo, you can even snag an exclusive Next Fest jersey and other cosmetics to carry over.

The demo window is short—it runs only until June 25—so if you want to see if the physics feel right, now is the time to download it. The full release date for Strikers Club is still to be determined, but for now, it's a title worth tracking for those looking for a hands-on, competitive sports experience.
